Policies

Inspire ELC Inclusion and Diversity Policy

At Inspire ELC we believe in welcoming children and their families of all backgrounds, race, religion, age, heritage, social and economic status, gender and ability

We believe ALL children should have access to an enriched, nurturing environment. If a child needs extra support, a plan will be set in place prior to starting. When a child has additional support we will ensure all staff have been trained to help meet the needs of the child.

Classrooms will be set up with furnishings that will be at the child’s level and can be adjusted if needed.

All children will have the opportunity to fully participate in our programs. If a child has a sensory concern, for example, we will change our strategy for them to be able to participate.

Support for children will involve ongoing training for staff, involving support from organizations such as, FACE, Talk with me and the New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL). Parents will also play a supportive role in helping us meet the needs of their children.

Outings and Trips

All our outings will be walking outings. Daily educators will walk with children in the community and visit local parks. Educators will carry emergency contact cards, a phone and a first-aid kit.

Administration of Medication

If your child requires ongoing medication you will need to fill out the ongoing medication form. If your child has an EpiPen, you will be required to fill out the proper forms annually.

Administration of medication must have your child’s name and in a bottle given to you from your pharmacy. We can not administer medication from an unlabeled bottle.

Illness Policy

If a child becomes ill during the day you will be notified and we will assess the illness following the Department of Health guidelines. However, if your child is not feeling well and is not participating you will be asked to pick your child up. Parents have 1 hour to pick up unwell children. We always follow Public Health guidelines for illness.

Department of Health Communicable Disease Policy

Parents must exclude their child from daycare with any one or more of the following symptoms, and parents must inform the centre as soon as possible:

Fever (oral temp 38.5C, rectal 39C, armpit 38C or greater) accompanied by behaviour changes or other signs of illness.

Diarrhea as defined by an increase in frequency of stool, changed stool or loose stool. Fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, mucus, or blood in stool.

Vomiting illness with 2 or more episodes of vomiting in the previous 24 hours.

Mouth sores associated with an inability of the child to control his/her saliva.

Rash with fever or behaviour changes.

Infections (eye infection with discharge) until 24 hours after medication treatment.

During an outbreak, the Department of Health may change the exclusion time and/or guidelines of exclusions.

Absences of a Child Policy

If your child will not be attending due to illness, vacation or enjoying a home day we ask you to call the centre by 9:00 am to let us know. Fees are still required for absences.

Safety

The Child Day Care Facilities Operator Standards states we must ensure parents comply with the following regulations. We must ask that there is no smoking/vaping on Inspire ELC property. E-cigarettes and water pipes are also not permitted.

Please note that Inspire ELC is a nut-free, peanut-free and scent-free facility.

Respecting the Educator Policy

Our educators work very hard to serve you with the best possible care and learning environment. If you find yourself in a situation where you and an educator do not agree, please come to management. Use of social media to vent is prohibited.

Children's Personal Belongings

We encourage everyone to label all belongings. All hats, mittens, clothing, cups, soothers etc. should have your child’s name on them. If something is lost we will do our best to find it however, we do not take responsibility for lost items.

All toys should stay home unless your child’s educator has asked for something to be sent in.

Water bottles, change of clothes, sunscreen, bug spray and outdoor clothes are all that should come with your child each day.
